What's it like?

This brand new Family Activity Holiday in Normandy combines an exciting adventure programme with popular visits including the Bayeaux Tapestry, WW2 beaches, Mont St Michel, St Malo Aquarium, local Goats cheese farm and french market. One day you'll be enjoying kayaking and rock climbing and the next you'll be wandering round the beautiful town of Bayeaux, with its charming shops and historic 57b74f9c-2180-4d43-9ed8-a387b80c56b8buildings, not the mention the famous Bayeaux Tapestry. This is a family holiday that has something for everyone, with a wide range of adventurous and cultural delights on offer, all organised for you and included in the price, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy this holiday of a lifetime.

Normandy is a much loved region of Northern France, popular because of its 350 miles of beautiful coastline, pretty countryside, historical places of interest, bustling French markets and close proximity to the UK. Set in the peaceful seaside town of Hauteville-sur-Mer, between Coutances and Granville, our family friendly centre is ideally placed just 600m from a long sandy beach and within walking distance of a cafe/bar and a small shop.

All activities here are suited to age 7+, included in the price and are delivered by our UK recruited qualified team of instructors. Programmed visits are also included in our coach holiday option and will be pre-booked and paid for in advance.

Activities

Normandy Adventure & Discovery by coach

This brand new 7 night family holiday has an exciting range of activities including rock climbing, kayaking, bushcraft, raft building, orienteering, mission impossible, archery, high ropes, fencing and campfire nights. All of the activities are included in the price and are delivered by our qualified team of activity instructors.

Our new Normandy coach holidays offer 3 1/2 days of activities and 2 1/2 days of visits, meaning you will get to try lots of new and exciting activities and see some of the best local sights in Normandy.

Typically, on activity days, there are three scheduled activity sessions each day: a morning session following breakfast, an afternoon session following lunch and a fun evening session following dinner. You can participate in as much or as little as you like. Activities here are suited to age 7+ and take place on-site and at a local crag and river.

The visits we have chosen for this holiday include: a day trip to Bayeaux and the Bayeaux Tapestry, the option to visit Arromanches 360 cinema and D Day landing beach (or stay in Bayeaux for relaxing/shopping), a trip to a local Goats Cheese Farm and chance to walk around Granville, a day trip to St Malo including entry to the St Malo Aquarium, as well as a chance to see the historic Mont St Michel.

Bayeaux

Bayeaux is a pretty, medieval city in Normandy with cobbled streets, half timbered houses and towering Norman-Gothic Notre Dame Cathedral. It's also home to the famous Bayeaux Tapestry, which you will get to explore as part of this holiday. There's plenty to see and do here. You can explore the Old Town, Cathedral, local shops, museums and art galleries. For those interested in history, you can also visit the Bayeaux War Cemetry.

Enjoy a full day here, or continue on to the Arromanches 360 cinema and WW2 Beaches.

Bayeaux Tapestry

Listed `World Heritage` by UNESCO, the Bayeaux Tapestry is 70 metres long and recounts the Conquest of England, by William , Duke of Normandy.

Arromanches 360 Cinema

Located on the Arromanches clifftops, the Arromanches 360 Circular cinema dominates the remnants of one of the two artificial Mulberry harbours set up by the Allies. The Arromanches 360 cinema was created for the fiftieth anniversary of the D-Day Landings. It is located on the Arromanche clifftops and shows a 30 minute film into the heart of the battle of Normandy. This is an optional visit, included in the price.

D Day Landing Beach

As part of your visit to the Arromanches 360 Circular Cinema, you may also wish to visit Gold Beach,which is close by. Here, you will find the remains of Mulberry Harbour.

St Malo

The cobbled streets of St Malo make you feel like you've stepped back in time and this popular tourist destination has a lot to offer. Enjoy a relaxed day here exploring the old town. Entry to the St Malo Aquarium is also included in the price of this holiday, a firm favourite with families.

St Malo Aquarium

In Saint-Malo, the Grand Aquarium allows you to discover life under the sea. With more than 600 different species of seas and oceans from around the world the aquarium is a popular place to visit. There are a number of different zones to make your way around, including a 360° aquarium where you will get a panoramic view of sharks, turtles and schools of fish.

Mont St Michel

On the way back from St Malo, your coach will stop at the Mont St Michel so you can have a short wander around this iconic World Heritage Site. Entry to the Abbey isn't included, but you can wander around the narrow streets and soak up the atmosphere of this magical island; one of Europe's most unforgettable sights.

Granville & Local Goats cheese Farm

One of your afternoon's will allow you to explore the local seaside town of Granville, with its beautiful sandy beach, shops & museums. After you have had a chance to wander round, you will move on to a nearby Goats Cheese Farm for a tour and to sample the delights on offer. On this day, dinner will be a later than usual because the Goats Cheese Farm opens at 5.30pm.

French market in Hauteville sur Mer

Before travelling home, you will get to explore the local Hauteville sur Mer French Market and pick up some local delights and souvenirs to take back to the UK. Within walking distance, this gives you one final treat before you board the coach and say au revoir to Normandy.

Our private Normandy Adventure Camp is located just a few minutes walk away from a long sandy beach in Hauteville-sur-Mer, between Coutances and Granville. This peaceful, traditional town has a cafe/bar and restaurant as well as a weekly market which you will visit before you travel home. Our Adventure Camp has two tented villages, exclusive to Acorn families, a central toilet and shower block, playing field, volleyball areas, on-site activities and a small shop.

The Acorn Tented Village

Our Normandy Adventure Camp offers accommodation in one of our comfortable, pre-erected family tented villages, set out in a horse shoe shape, with a central marquee for dining & socialising. This relaxed environment is very family friendly and means that children and adults make friends throughout the holiday- an unexpected highlight. Parents often feel very comfortable letting their children play together in free time, while they enjoy a glass or two of wine. And our staff provide entertainment in the evenings, giving you some time to relax, if don’t wish to join in. There are washing lines provided to hang your clothes and a volleyball area centrally for those who want to enjoy a game in free time.

Families with less than four are offered a secondary tent as standard, but can upgrade to a primary tent, or add an additional secondary tent for an extra charge, subject to availability. Meals are prepared and served by our staff on a full board basis. Our menus have been carefully planned with families in mind and are designed to offer you tasty, nutritious food, giving you all the fuel you need for adventure. How to get there

You can travel to our Normandy Adventure Camp by coach (organised by us), or make your own way there by car or air by selecting our `self-drive` holiday.

Our Adventure Camp is only 1 1/2 hours from Cherbourg and Caen, making it easily accessible from the UK.

Our coach holidays are very popular because they offer great value and are fully organised by us. Families enjoy getting to meet other families who will be sharing their holiday, on the journey down and like that they can sit back, relax and just enjoy the journey.

Travelling by coach

Travelling by coach is the most affordable and convenient way to travel to our Normandy Adventure Camp with your family, in particular with the addition of a range of Normandy visits. Your coach will include comfortable seating, air-conditioning, DVD player and WC. There will be plenty of rest breaks along the way and the other families on the coach will be staying with you on your tented village in Normandy. So this is a great way for you all to make friends before you even arrive! The outbound ferry crossing is 5-6 hours and there is plenty to do on board to keep the family entertained as well as comfortable reclining seats. You can choose to book a room on the ferry if you would like your own space. This is an additional charge,so let us know if you would like to add this to your booking. Once in France, the coach journey is approximately 1 1/2 hours, so not too far away.

We have a single parent family coach travelling to this destination and a mixed family coach.

Travelling by car

If you choose to travel by car, we will provide full directions on booking and can help you arrange your channel crossing.

The majority of the activities take place at the Adventure Camp so you won't need to use your car very often whilst you are on holiday, but some of the activities are off-site and you will need to make your own way to the activities, using our directions.

Our Normandy Adventure Camp is in Hauteville-sur-Mer, and is 1 1/2 hours drive from Cherbourg or approximately six hours from Calais.
