Bormio Skiing

Overview

The gorgeous medieval spa town of Bormio is regularly voted the most beautiful ski resort in the world and is perfect for those who want the complete winter experience. As a serious ski resort it is one of the best in Italy. Bormio's ski area covers some 40 miles of piste and the well-groomed blue runs are particularly well suited for learning to snowboard. Beginners can relax in the gondolas and then progress on to the gentle blue runs with fantastic conditions. Unlike most resorts, the gentle beginners’ slopes here are halfway up the mountain, so even first-time skiers get to view the scenery, rather than stay at the base of the mountain. There's brilliant skiing for intermediates, with very long runs on tree-lined slopes. For intermediates looking for a challenge, there's an exhilarating 14 km descent from the Cima Bianca cable car right down into the village itself. This run is a must after a fresh fall of new snow. Or if you're feeling even more adventurous, you could take on the Stelvio World Cup Downhill course. Bormio is almost unique in the ski world and anyone who loves Italian life and a beautiful town won't even need the skiing! The narrow cobbled streets are filled at night with a happy crowd enjoying the Après-ski and immaculate shops. The Italian tradition of "la passeggiata" is very much in evidence here, where the locals take their early evening stroll through the cobbled streets of the old town, to see and be seen.
